Review - Suddenly One Summer by Julie James

Image and blurb from Goodreads

Title: Suddenly One Summer
Author: Julie James

About the book:

From the New York Times bestselling author of It Happened One Wedding comes a novel about a man and a woman whose summer is about to get very, very steamy…

Divorce lawyer Victoria Slade has seen enough unhappy endings to swear off marriage forever. That doesn't mean she's opposed to casual dating—just not with her cocky new neighbor, who is as gorgeous and tempting as he is off-limits. But once she agrees to take on his sister's case, she's as determined to win as ever—even if that means teaming up with Ford…

Investigative journalist Ford Dixon is bent on finding the man who got his sister pregnant and left her high and dry. He's willing to partner with Victoria, despite the fact that the beautiful brunette gets under his skin like no other woman. He might not be looking to settle down, but there's no denying the scorching attraction between them. Still, the more time he spends with Victoria, the more he realizes that the one woman as skeptical about love as he is might be the only woman he could really fall for…

My thoughts:

4.0 "Smoking hot hate-to-love" STARS

Julie James impressed me again and established her place as one of my favorite romance authors. This woman can do no wrong.

I didn't read the last two books in the series, so some of the references were lost on me, but they weren't even remotely heavy enough to keep me from getting into this new story.

And this was Ford and Victoria's love story. A heck of a good one.

This book has everything I needed:

*Great MC's: Victoria was this powerful lawyer who didn't take crap from anyone, and that included her new neighbor, the adorable, but also sassy Ford. Man, how could one not fall for Ford? The way he cared about his mom, sister, niece and best friend.... Awwwwww. That level of respect for women will always have me swooning.

*off-the-charts chemistry: I was already hyperventilating after their first kiss. So hot! The hate and love relationship always get to me and this time was no different. Victoria and Ford has amazing chemistry and all the sexy scenes were way too sexy for my sanity.

*Good plot: The whole thing with Ford's sister was simply perfect. I loved to see how Ford was protective of her, how Victoria got involved with her problems, and mainly the solution to said problem. It wasn't cliche and it filled me with hope for a better future for Ford's sister and niece.

*The MC's struggle: I enjoyed how Julie James explored the panic disorder issues, as well as Ford's fears. Linking Victoria and Ford's issues was a smart idea and served well the purpose to keep them apart before bringing them together.

This was an excellent read and I'll sure be checking more of Julie's work now that I'm officially a fan.
